Yesterday I was at a christening where someone was complaining about Bank Holiday Mondays being a bit pointless, a bit of a nothing-ness kind of day. Whilst I can see why people might prefer to trade some statutory holidays for extra days added to their annual leave allowance, I do think there’s something lovely about having a Bank Holiday weekend. On the last one, at Easter, I went for a family meal then played scrabble with my niece and nephew. Today I had a lie-in, a chilled morning, finished off some writing, and generally just relaxed. Rather than bemoaning them, we should see Bank Holidays for what they originally were: a chance for some much needed leisure. When else do we have a random Monday off work? Vive le long weekend! Only four weeks until the next!
