Carpe Weekend

Carpe Weekend

Most of us are familiar with the phrase ‘Carpe Diem’, or ‘Seize the day’.  Yet rather than seizing every day, often it is only on the weekend that we feel we have time to stop, collect ourselves and breathe.  This feature is designed to help with that: a small suggestion, tip or hint for you to try (if you wish!) over the weekend.  Maybe it will make a difference to your life, maybe it won’t, maybe it will prompt some other thoughts.  Enjoy – and seize your weekend!

Take your key ring. Inspect every key on it in turn. Do you know what it is the key for? If not, take it off. Put it in a safe place in case you should suddenly remember and actually need it, but if you don’t know what it is for then chances are you don’t need to carry it round the whole time. Then look again at the keys that are left. Do you need to carry them all around all of the time? Maybe you did at one point but no longer need to. Maybe for the odd occasion you need it then it isn’t worth pocket or bag space. Take it off and also stash these in a safe space.

Look at what is left. How many metal rings do you have? Can you fit all your keys on one? Move them round to fit on the minimum number possible. What about key rings? Like keys themselves, these seem to easily accumulate and mean you end up carrying a lot more weight and bulk than you need to. Ditch them all or just keep one on. If you like several then why not rotate them instead, or if you’ve separated your keys then put one on each set. Or maybe the next time you see a key ring that you like, buy it and pop it on your pared down bunch.

This might not change your life but I sure know myself that carrying the lightest set of keys possible just feels, well, lighter in a metaphorical sense too. Try it. Who knows what it may be the key to….(Sorry, couldn’t resist the pun!).
