Hello and welcome!
I’m a freelance writer and speaker specialising in life and style, a lovely big umbrella term that covers fashion, beauty, lifestyle, mindful living, mental health and sobriety. I’m particularly interested in ethical and sustainability issues, and these are key themes in my fashion and beauty work.
As well as creating this blog, I’ve written for a range of online and print titles including Grazia, Stylist.co.uk and Huff Post. I contribute regularly to The Ethicalist, Mental Health Today, Welldoing.org and Betty.
I’m also a speaker, which includes regular appearances as a guest and a newspaper reviewer on BBC local radio.
Previously I was an academic historian, researching women’s magazines, fashion, beauty and the home and teaching women’s and gender history, US history and British history from 1780. During that time, I also wrote articles and book chapters, did lots of editing of books and journals and produced a 90,000 word PhD thesis entitled ‘The Housewife and The Modern: The Home and Appearance in Women’s Magazines, 1954-1969’, which you can freely read here if it takes your fancy!
If you’re interested in having me write for your publication, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you’d like to know more about my blogging, copywriting, editing, proofreading, speaking, event organisation and coaching services, please check out my ‘How can I help you?’ page.
If you’ve landed here because you’re interested in my historical research and writing, all the details are included in my C.V.
If you’re here to continue a journey with me that began on A Life Of One’s Own, so pleased that you’re staying on for the ride.
