About

Hello and welcome!

I’m Rae and I’m a freelance writer and blogger.  I previously worked as an academic historian for a decade (specialisms: women’s magazines, fashion, beauty and the home) before taking the leap into Boss Lady territory.  Whether in the past or the present, I’m interested in how people make sense of themselves and their lives.  My own signposts for living are connection, adventure and abundance, and these also guide my work.

I write about fashion, beauty, mental health, sobriety, gender, women’s magazines and mindful living.  As well as posting regularly on my blog, I’m a blogger for The Huffington Post UK.  I’m also the Fashion and Beauty Writer for Londnr Magazine and a regular contributor to Mental Health Today and Welldoing.org.  I love writing articles for teen website Betty.me too!

I’ve written for wide range of other publications, both online and in print, including The Mutton Club, Club Soda, The Feminist Times, WI Life, the Women’s History Network blog, the Friend, Women’s History Review, Women in Magazines: Research, Representation, Production and Consumption, History Workshop Journal.  I also produced a 90,000+ word PhD thesis entitled ‘The Housewife and The Modern: The Home and Appearance in Women’s Magazines, 1954-1969’, which you can freely read here if it takes your fancy!

If you’re interested in having me write for your publication, please send an email to rae@raeritchie.com.

If you’d like to know more about my blogging, copywriting, editing, proofreading, speaking, event organisation and coaching services, please check out my ‘How can I help you?’ page.

I hang out on social media a lot, especially Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest, so please come and connect with me there!

If you’ve landed here because you’re interested in my historical research and writing, all the details are included in my C.V.

If you’re here to continue a journey with me that began on A Life Of One’s Own, so pleased that you’re staying on for the ride.
